SDG assessment map

By clicking on the coloured countries on this map, you will access their respective overview pages, where national civil society coalitions provide perspectives on SDG progress, climate change and civic space, as well as scores for each of those areas. The SDG progress scores have been provided through a People's Scorecard. You may learn more about the Scorecard in the FAQ below.

Frequently Asked Questions on A4SD People’s Scorecards

Who has prepared the People’s Scorecards?

Action for Sustainable Development works in partnership with national SDG focused civil society coalitions around the world. Since 2016, we have supported 15-20 national SDG civil society coalitions every year to share an independent civil society report alongside the national SDG reporting at the High Level Political Forum. The reports can be seen here.  The full list of national partners is on page 2.

How were the reports prepared?

Each review is conducted in country by a national coalition and is based on a shared methodology which was developed in a collaborative way with a range of international experts. You can see the methodology here.

Each national coalition assess different dimensions of the SDG implementation process based on a common scoring scale, rating progress on each goal from 1 (no progress) to 5 (implementation on track). This analysis provides the first overview by major civil society coalitions on the progress of the implementation process and delivery of the SDGs in each country to date.

Who was consulted to reach these scores?

The national review process varies from country to country but each national coalition convenes a broad range of stakeholders across the country, including by organizing local consultations with hundreds of community groups. Many examples, such as India and Kenya, have included extensive localised dialogues with key communities across the whole country, whereas others such as Brazil and South Africa work through key networks that include experts and citizen-led data approaches. You can see a list of all the national coalitions involved in the People’s Scorecard reporting process to date on the country pages here.

Will this continue in the future?

The ‘People’s Scorecards’ have been developed in a participatory way with many diverse national coalitions. It is intended that the approach to promote dialogue across civil society at the national level continues to be as inclusive as possible and will seek to include even more partners in the future. These reports aims to consider in which areas progress has been made within the implementation process, highlight gaps and show where more determination, dialogue, political will and resources are required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
